As a former health journalist (Prevention, Real Simple, O: the Oprah Magazine, the New York Times, and many others), certified health coach, and healthy menu restaurant consultant, I knew that I should only eat healthy food. But I have a very unhealthy sweet tooth. So I got to work in The Brooklyn Kitchen. The objective: to make the most incredible tasting healthy treats ever.
One year and hundreds of dirty pans later, I succeeded, and last September, I launched Pure Genius Provisions with my first two products: a Deep Chocolate Brownie and a Chocolate Chunk Blondie. They are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, made from only good stuff, and under 200 calories for each hefty bar. The secret ingredient: beans! But there's no beany taste, just pure deliciousness. They are also kosher-certified, non GMO verified and made in a gluten-free and allergen-free bakery.
It's been a STEEP learning curve. But now, less than six months after launching, we are filling our first order for Whole Foods Northeast (33 stores in NY and parts of NJ and CT), and should be on the shelves the week of February 8th.
Two years ago, if you had told me I'd be running a food company, I would have said you were crazy. Now it's hard to imagine doing anything else!
